Stuffed with peanut butter and cheese and drizzled with butter and condensed milk, this delicious and unique French toast is popularly served in Cha Chaan Teng( cafe)with a cup of Hong Kong milk tea.
Simply scrumptious
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 slices of thick-cut bread
- 1-2eggs
- 1-2 tbsp of cream or milk
- 1-2 tbsp of peanut butter
- 1-2 tbsp of condensed milk
- 1 tsp butter( cut into a small block)
- Cheese slice
- A drop of vanilla essence (optional)
- Pinch of powdered sugar ( optional)
- 4-5 tbsp of oil for frying
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cut the sides of the bread
- Put peanut butter on one side of bread ( or both)
- Place cheese on one slice of bread
- Close sandwich
- Beat the egg, cream, vanilla, and powdered sugar in a bowl.
- Transfer this egg mixture to a plate
- Heat oil in a pan ( med heat)
- Dip the prepared sandwich into the egg mixture. Coat well. Do not soak
Fry the sandwich in oil (30-40 sec on each side) until light golden brown
- Remove and place on a paper towel
- Transfer to a serving plate
- Add butter and condensed milk
Your delicious hong kong style French toast is ready
- Enjoy hot
Note:
Traditionally a block of butter and golden syrup is served over the French toast. I have also tried it with maple syrup. Each version is delicious
