Falafel is a popular vegan food in Egypt and throughout the Middle East. Falafel is a deep fried ball or Patty made from soaked and ground chickpeas, fresh Herbs and spices.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup Chickpeas, soaked overnight and drained dry (not pictured)
- ½ Onion chopped
- 5-6 cloves Garlic
- 1-2 Green chillies
- 1/4tsp Red chilli powder
- 1tsp Cumin powder
- ½ tsp Coriander powder
- ¼ tsp Black pepper
- ½ Lemon juice
- 1tsp Salt
- Large bunch of coriander leaves
- 2 Spring onion ( not pictured)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Add the chickpeas into a food processor
- Add coriander leaves and spring onion
- Add onion and green chillies
- Add cumin , coriander, red chilli powder and salt
- Add lemon juice
- Grind everything together ( coarse mixture)
- Leave mixture in fridge to chill for 15-20 minutes
- Grease your hand slightly
- Shape smooth balls. You can make round falafel or disc shaped ( around 14-18 falafels)
- Heat oil for frying falafel
- Deep Fry falafel on med heat. Don’t stir the falafels too much. You can shallow fry the falafel patty too as I’ve done.you can also air fry these falafels.
- Once they are golden brown on all sides , remove and place them on a paper towel.
- Your crispy and delicious falafels are ready
