Sharing a bit of my sports life story and how blessed I am………
I started playing badminton when I was 6 years old. Words can’t express how grateful I am to this man whom I call “Dad” for introducing badminton to me as a kid; being my home coach, guiding me and never gave up on me, “I love you dad”.
I am obviously biased, but I believe badminton is a fantastic sport than can give an individual so many positive experiences. Amongst other things, badminton has given me the opportunity to compete (and occasionally win) against incredible athletes, to travel and build friendships across the world and to develop a skill set that has helped me transition into my current career. I feel indebted to badminton and believe that is has opened so many doors for me including my career.
It has always been part of my life for over 20 years and for me it’s not just a sport but a lifestyle. It’s not an easy journey, a lot of sacrifices comes with it, but the journey becomes easier with a good family (my all-time support system). My beloved mom who stayed awake odd hour just to prepare meals for us before we head for tournaments, her prayers and blessings has always been with me and not forgetting my partner in crime Nithes (my brother), being my lifelong badminton partner. Little “Ah Hong” my adopted brother who came later into our lives, giving me the chance to pass down this legacy to him (well I am training him now..hehe )
So, to youngsters out there, just a small piece of advice, sport is an incredibly important part of our life and one that offers so many benefits.
For those reasons make yourself and your interest known. Go all out and achieve it, it takes time and commitment but that, in my opinion when you are part of a process that is working to improve your sport it is time well spent and a very fulfilling role. Cheerssszz!!!
