The Diamond Beach is a surreal place where you can spend hours wandering in awe over the sparkling icebergs washed along the black sandy beach. The icebergs comes in so many forms and colours; ranging from transparent, to white, and to the most stunning blue colour; it is truly like visiting an natural art gallery.

The ice floating on the lagoon looked like ‘diamonds’ when they washed up on the black sand beach. If you ever dream about a surreal place this might be the dream.
BLUE ICEBERGS
The contrast between the black sand and the sparkling blue icebergs is stunningly beautiful. We were able to see an awesome sundown and the diamonds glistening in the sun’s rays.
Driving to Diamond Beach
There are many airlines flying to Iceland from major European cities and London has the most frequent connection. I bought full fare Icelandair ticket from London and Reykjavik for this trip. Once in Iceland, the best to travel
is by driving. Its easy and comfortable as there is only major highway in the whole of Iceland. If you keep on driving eventually you will come back to the same location. Cool!
The Diamond Beach is located just across from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, about 370 km from Reykjavík and about 80 km from Höfn. The drive from Reykjavík takes around 5 hours, but only about 1 hour from Höfn. It may seem like a long
drive but there are many attractions along the way. You wont be bored! I guarantee.
Breiðamerkursandu (Black Beach)
Black beach on Iceland’s South Coast is one of the most unique black sand beaches in the world. It was created by lava flowing into the ocean which cooled almost instantly as it touched the water.
The black sand is always mixed with translucent ice sculptures that glisten in the sun, much like diamonds. This is why Breiðamerkursandur is called Diamond Beach.
We arrived when the sun was coming down creating a surreal atmosphere. The orange hue and the color of the ice make this a photographer heaven.
Jökulsá river is one of the shortest rivers in Iceland where chunks of icebergs float into the open sea and some washed back onto the diamond beach.
Spectacular Iceberg’s Color and Formations
This location is definitely one of a kind. There’s nowhere else in the world where you can see huge pieces of iceberg scattered across black sand beach.
Broken icebergs of all shapes and sizes float from the lagoon and are deposited on the black sand beach. It is an incredible sight to see, iceberg floating and lying everywhere.
This polished icebergs look stunning with the sun light penetrating its transparent surface.

We walk down the whole stretch of the beach. Each iceberg is unique. We could spend hours admiring them.
Pick up a fresh and shiny piece of ice.
Saw something trap inside the iceberg. In the movies, these trap air or virus will end the world when release
Diamond Beach is one of those places everyone should see at least once. But the most unique part about this beach is that every visit will be different, depending on the weather and the number of icebergs that make their way to shore.
The pictures with us on top of the ice is nice. But really, under no circumstance should you climb upon an iceberg, due to their slippery surfaces and sharp edges. I slipped once and injured my thumb. It was painful but luckily not a serious wound. It is even more dangerous if the iceberg is near the sea as the waves could move or drag the icebergs along with them
Final Stroll
These ones looks like huge diamonds. Have been polished and refined by water and sun.
Iceland is so full of surreal environments. Diamonds on the Beach is an incredible place to experience. Truly worth visiting once in a lifetime.
